A wee bird from Centaur sends through this little snippet of news

Centaur are closing Public Private Finance magazine after publication of the Feb issue.

It was a  B2B publication essentially for the construction/finance & legal companies who are involved in the delivery of the governments PFI & PPP infrastructure programme.

Was sold on an extortionately high subscription basis – £900 per year for a single issue! – that was falling like a stone both in circulation number and revenue.

Advertisers were mostly financial institutions of some description and companies linked with construction. The writing has been on the wall for some time now. There’ll be about 5 redundancies .

I’m betting half a pint of mild and a fish supper that isn’t the last product Centaur will drop as quietly as possible in the next few weeks/months.

It’s going to be an interesting year for Centaur (and for ‘interesting’ of course I mean ‘bad’). They’ve got a lot of controlled circulation B2B titles (which is not good) and are big in markets such as media (uh oh), building (uh oh) and financial services (gulp).  They also publish Recruiter magazine, which probably won’t be in much demand over the next few months.

Centaur’s share price has been under pressure for some time.
