Private Frazer’s Doomed Magazines

The unkindest cut

Private Frazer’s article on the rejuvenating properties of a cold porridge face scrub may now never see the light of day as Merricks Media, the publishers of Brand New You, have gone into liquidation.

Merricks also published half a dozen magazines on buying property abroad, so this category takes a further bath. Are you watching Archant Life?

Heartwarmingly, there appears to be a large amount of recrimination and back-biting about the firms demise, with the owners blaming the banks and others talking about ‘poor business decisions’.

  1. I take it you’re a failed freelancer – hence why you derive pleasure from mocking magazines. May I politely suggest you actually focus your energies on looking for work rather than spending your clearly miserable existence studying at mag circ figures etc…

The only people who get affected by this kind of stuff are the people on the shop floor – normal people with average salaries trying to do their best to earn a living. You clearly have ‘issues’ but taking them out on mag staff is fucked up and really quite tragic.

    • As one who sits in a funeral parlour all day waiting for bodies to turn up the miserable existence line is obviously spot on. The only minor joys are getting stupid posts like yours.

If you’d taken a wee bit of time to read this blog you might have found that far from ‘mocking magazines’ I’m exercised by the fact that they’re being run by incompetents who have failed to appreciate the changes that the internet has wrought. By focussing on short term profit, chasing illusory circulation figures, screwing advertisers in the boom times, they’ve managed to initiate the possible destruction of an industry with the ‘normal people with average salaries’ as so much collateral damage.

The Mr Magoo tag is an allusion to your short sightedness I guess. You weren’t one of the management at Merricks by any chance?

  2. Well Mr Magoo sounds like someone from Merricks. Having got another 12 months subscription out of me after a Christmas campaign they then form another company to take over two of their titles BEFORE winding Merricks Media up.

They would probably sit back in their chairs and relax with the spoils of others labour but can’t because of the fins on their backs.
