So farewell then Maxim magazine, the second men’s magazine to close in a matter of weeks. Launched as a lad’s magazine on the back of the Loaded boom of the late nineties, in recent years Maxim tried to reinvent itself a couple of times, first as a more upmarket men’s magazine, the second time as a waste of space.

Once a huge seller – over 300,000 copies a month at one point – it was reduced to an irrelevant rump by the end. In fact its sales were so small that Maxim‘s end is unlikely to provide any lift to the surviving titles, so we can all look forward to FHM and particularly Loaded taking that short walk into darkness quite shortly.
