Titles you’d forgotten existed, part 2

An email trundles through cyberspace to bring news of (BBC) Good Homes magazine.

The title was ‘sold’ to Kelsey Publishing earlier this year along with a handful of  staff to oversee three changeover issues. It now sits alongside Private Frazer’s favourites, “The Stationary Engine” and “Practical Reptile Keeping”.

This match made in hell went through faster than a shotgun wedding and required some fast footwork from the Beeb’s RM dept to come up with a novation agreement to persuade contributors who owned unpublished work to go along with the deal.

Publisher Phill Weeden has said that he wants the quality to be as good as the BBC title – unfortunately he doesn’t want to pay for it.  His approaches to contributors to the old title have been met with a big raspberry and having lost the BBC connection the mag is struggling to get decent retail space.”
